Karatu is a lively agricultural town nestled in the fertile highlands between Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, sitting at approximately 1,400 metres above sea level along the main road of the Northern Safari Circuit. Known informally as the Little Switzerland of Tanzania for its cool highland climate, lush coffee and banana plantations and green rolling hills, Karatu serves as a convenient overnight stopover for guests travelling between Lake Manyara National Park and Ngorongoro Crater.
