Tarangire National Park is one of Tanzaniaโs most underrated and rewarding safari destinations, covering approximately 2,850 square kilometres of classic East African savanna dominated by ancient baobab trees and the life-giving Tarangire River in the Manyara Region of northern Tanzania. During the dry season from June through October, the Tarangire River becomes the only permanent water source in the region, drawing extraordinary concentrations of wildlife from the surrounding ecosystem including Africaโs largest seasonal elephant herds, often numbering in the hundreds, alongside lions, leopards, cheetahs, large buffalo herds, oryx, fringe-eared oryx and greater kudu found in few other northern circuit parks. The parkโs iconic landscape of massive ancient baobabs silhouetted against golden light at dawn and dusk is among the most photographed in Africa. Tarangire also offers walking safaris and fly camping, and is typically the first park visited on the northern circuit after departing Arusha.
